Materials & Craftsmanship

Our Leather Puppy Collars are handcrafted from premium full-grain buffalo calf leather, chosen especially for its beautifully soft, lightweight feel. At approximately 1.2–1.4mm thick, it is finer and more flexible than the leather used for our standard dog collars, making it particularly comfortable for puppies, tiny dogs and small breeds.

The leather is vegetable tanned and finished with non-toxic, water-based dyes. As a natural full-grain leather, each piece has its own subtle variations in grain and character and will develop a beautiful patina with use.

All fittings are made from quality solid brass, with your choice of natural brass (gold coloured) or nickel-plated brass (silver coloured) hardware.

Optional personalised nameplates are hand stamped in our workshop and securely fitted directly to the collar.

Each collar is individually handmade in New Zealand, with careful attention to finishing and detail.

Which Collar Width Should I Choose?

Our Leather Puppy Collars are available in two lightweight widths:

1/2" (12mm) – our narrowest and lightest option, ideal for very small puppies and tiny dogs.

3/4" (19mm) – a slightly wider option for larger puppies and small dogs, or if you simply prefer the look of a wider collar.

Both widths are made from the same beautifully soft, lightweight full-grain leather.

If your puppy is growing quickly or is becoming too strong for a lightweight puppy collar, we recommend moving to one of our standard Leather Dog Collars.

Customisation Options

Each Leather Puppy Collar is individually made to order, with your choice of leather colour, collar width, neck size and hardware.

LEATHER COLOUR
Choose from our range of beautiful full-grain leather colours to create a collar especially for your puppy.

COLLAR WIDTH
Choose from 1/2" (12mm) or 3/4" (19mm) wide, depending on the size of your puppy or dog and the look you prefer.

NECK SIZE
Select your puppy's current neck circumference from the options provided. We make the collar to suit this measurement, with seven closely spaced adjustment holes to allow room for growth.

HARDWARE
Choose natural solid brass for a classic gold finish, or nickel-plated solid brass for a silver finish.

PERSONALISED NAMEPLATE
Add an optional hand-stamped nameplate with your puppy's identification details. Your nameplate will be matched to your chosen hardware - solid brass with gold hardware or stainless steel with silver hardware.

The nameplate sits securely against the collar, keeping your puppy's important contact details easily visible without the movement or jingling of a traditional hanging dog tag.

Is this suitable for your dog?

Our Leather Puppy Collar is made from beautifully soft, lightweight leather and is designed especially for puppies and tiny or small dogs.

It is available for neck measurements up to 27cm (10.5"), with seven closely spaced adjustment holes to allow room for a growing puppy.

Because this collar is made from finer, lightweight leather, it is not designed for larger or strong dogs that pull on the lead. For these dogs, we recommend choosing one of our standard Leather Dog Collars, made from thicker leather for greater strength.

The soft, lightweight construction also makes this collar a lovely choice for tiny adult dogs and elderly dogs where comfort and minimal weight are important.

How To Measure Neck Size

For the best fit, measure your puppy's neck using a soft measuring tape.

  1. Measure around the neck where the collar will naturally sit.
  2. Keep the measuring tape snug but not tight against the neck.
  3. Select this exact measurement from the neck size options provided. Do not add extra length to allow for growth - we will make the necessary allowance when positioning the adjustment holes.

For growing puppies: Our Leather Puppy Collars are made with seven closely spaced adjustment holes to provide plenty of room for growth. Simply select your puppy's current neck measurement and we'll take care of the rest.

Please measure your puppy's neck rather than an existing collar, as collar measurements can vary depending on the buckle style, leather thickness and construction.
