Lightweight Everyday Design

A lightweight, waterproof dog harness designed for comfort, simplicity, and everyday adventure.

Handcrafted from genuine BioThane® and custom made to your dog’s measurements, this harness features a streamlined design with only one buckle, making it quick and easy to put on and take off.

Simply slip the harness over your dog’s head, lift one paw through, and fasten the buckle.

Unlike many harnesses with bulky hardware across the shoulders, the lead attachment dee ring is positioned at the back of the harness to help distribute pressure more naturally across the body. This creates a comfortable fit while helping the harness stay balanced during walks.

Is This Harness Right for Your Dog?

Designed with everyday comfort in mind, this harness is best suited to small and medium companion dogs. The lightweight, minimalist design is ideal for daily walks and general use, rather than strong pulling breeds or heavy-duty working applications.

As most parts of the harness are not adjustable, we recommend this style for fully grown dogs once they have reached their adult size.

Genuine BioThane®

Made from genuine BioThane®, the harness is:
✦ Waterproof
✦ Odour resistant
✦ Easy to wipe clean
✦ Soft and flexible to handle
✦ Ideal for beach walks, muddy adventures, and everyday wear

Customisation Options

Each harness is individually crafted in your choice of colours, allowing you to create a completely unique combination for your dog.

Optional Personalised Nameplate

A hand-stamped solid brass or stainless steel nameplate can be added to your harness.

Depending on the size of your dog and harness proportions, the nameplate can usually be positioned:
✦ Along the top strap
✦ On the side girth strap
✦ On one of the chest straps

If you are unsure, we will position the nameplate in the most suitable location for both visibility and comfort.

Measuring Guide

As each harness is custom made, accurate measurements are important for the best fit.

Please refer to our Harness Size Guide (see image) before ordering.

Example sizing reference:
An adult female Miniature Schnauzer weighing approximately 10kg wears:
✦ A to B - 17cm
✦ A to C - 10cm
✦ B to C - 14cm
✦ C - 53cm

This is provided as a general example only. Every dog is built differently, so we strongly recommend measuring your individual dog before ordering.

If you need help with sizing or measurements, please feel free to contact us before ordering - we are always happy to help.

Materials & Craftsmanship

BIOTHANE®

This harness is handcrafted using genuine BioThane® - a premium coated webbing that combines a strong polyester core with a waterproof protective coating.

The result is a material that is:
✦ Waterproof
✦ Lightweight and flexible
✦ Easy to wipe clean
✦ Odour resistant
✦ Durable for everyday adventure

We only use genuine BioThane® because of its proven quality and long-term reliability. Unlike many lower-quality alternatives, it maintains its strength, finish, and performance over time.

HARDWARE

Our harnesses are paired with premium solid brass hardware, selected for strength, durability, and long-term rust resistance. All hardware is secured with strong solid brass rivets.

Solid brass is a natural metal, so our "gold" hardware may naturally darken and develop character over time. Many owners love the rich patina this creates, though it can also be polished to restore a brighter shine if preferred.

If you prefer a brighter finish with less natural patina, our silver (nickel-plated solid brass) or black (PVD solid brass) hardware option may be better suited.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

Each harness is individually custom made to your dog’s measurements, with thoughtful design focused on comfort, simplicity, and everyday practicality.

The streamlined single-buckle design allows the harness to slip easily over your dog’s head before fastening securely around the body, creating a lightweight and comfortable fit with minimal bulk.

Optional nameplates are hand-stamped by hand. Minor tooling marks or small inconsistencies in the stamping are part of the unique character and craftsmanship of a handmade custom piece.

Collar Width - Size Guide

Not sure what width collar your dog needs? Here’s a simple guide to help you choose the best fit for your dog — whether you’re after a soft puppy collar or something sturdy for a strong puller. We’ve included recommendations for both our leather dog collars and BioThane® dog collars so you can pick a width that’s comfy, practical, and looks great too.

Leather Dog Collars

Leather Dog Collar - Width Recommendations - Kinfolk Leather Custom Dog Collars NZ

As a general guide, we recommend that if your dog’s neck circumference is:

  • Less than 22cm (8.5”) or a puppy under 3 months old, choose a soft leather puppy collar.
  • 22 - 28cm (8.5 - 11”), choose a 1/2” leather collar.
  • 28 - 34cm (11 - 13”), choose a 3/4” leather collar.
  • 34 - 41cm (13 - 16”), choose a 1” leather collar.
  • 41 - 48cm (15 - 19”), choose a 1 1/4” leather collar.
  • 48cm (19”) and larger, choose a 1 1/2” leather collar.

BioThane® Dog Collars

The BioThane® range comes in widths of 1/2”, 3/4”, and 1”. Because BioThane® is stronger than leather, these widths are suitable for a wider range of neck sizes. When choosing a width, you can focus more on the look you prefer and the comfort of your dog, as the strength will be adequate regardless of the size.

BioThane Dog Collar Width Guide - Kinfolk Leather Custom Dog Collar NZ

  • 1/2” BioThane® Collar: Suitable for necks up to 35cm (14”).
  • 3/4” BioThane® Collar: Suitable for necks from 28cm (11") - 40cm (16").
  • 1” BioThane® Collar: Suitable for necks from 35cm (14") and beyond. This width is highly recommended for most medium and large dog breeds.

General Tips:

  • Wider collars are stronger, so please consider this when selecting the width. For example, do not use a 1/2” collar for a medium-sized dog; choose at least a 3/4” collar or larger.
  • For medium-sized breeds and larger dogs, especially those that have a habit of pulling on the lead, we highly recommend choosing one of our D-End Dog Collars. These collars provide an additional layer of leather to pull against when attaching a lead to the dee ring, offering extra strength and durability to handle stronger pulling.

Customisation Options

Choose your preferred colour combination and hardware finish, with each harness custom made to your dog’s unique measurements for a personalised fit.

Is this suitable for your pet?

Designed for fully-grown small and medium companion dogs, this lightweight harness is ideal for everyday walks, outings, and adventures.

For very large breeds or strong pulling dogs, a heavier-duty harness style may be more suitable.

How To Measure Neck Size

Getting the size right means a better fit and a more comfortable collar for your dog. Here's how to measure your dog’s neck so we can make their collar just right - plus tips for growing puppies.

Dog Collar Measurement Guide - Kinfolk Leather Custom Dog Collars NZ

We strongly suggest providing an accurate measurement when placing your order. Old collars can stretch or sit differently, so measuring them often gives an inaccurate size - a quick neck measurement using the guide below will give the best fit.

1. Using a soft tape measure, record the circumference of the neck at the point where a collar would naturally lie. If you don’t have a tape measure, you can use a piece of string, ribbon, or strip of paper, then lay it flat against a ruler to measure the length.

2. Pull the tape so that it is snug but not tight - close enough that the collar will sit securely without slipping over the head, while still remaining comfortable for your dog. Record the measurement.

3. Enter this measurement in the personalisation text box when prompted. This measurement will be the middle hole of the collar, we will add at least another two holes either side.

Puppies - If your dog is a puppy, please let us know and we will make an allowance for growth when sizing the holes for the collar. Please feel free to give us a range (up to 12cm, i.e. 24-36cm) so that we can make sure there are enough holes to suit your dog's growth. We can be very flexible with the number of holes provided in the collar.
