For early morning starts, evening walks and everything in between. Our Reflective BioThane® Dog Collars combine the strength and practicality of waterproof BioThane® with an embedded 3M reflective strip that catches and reflects light from headlights, torches and other light sources.

Each collar is individually handmade in New Zealand and custom sized to fit your dog, with seven reflective colours, three hardware finishes and the option to add a personalised, hand-stamped nameplate.

Personalise your collar

Add a hand-stamped brass or stainless steel nameplate with your dog's name, phone number or other important details.

Each nameplate is individually stamped by hand and securely attached to the collar, sitting across the reflective strap at the top of your dog's neck.

Please note that the nameplate will cover a small section of the reflective strip.

A note on reflectivity

The reflective strip helps improve your dog's visibility when illuminated by headlights, torches or other light sources, making it particularly useful for dawn, dusk and evening walks.

Reflective material does not glow on its own and is best used alongside other appropriate visibility measures when walking in darkness.

BIOTHANE®
Made from genuine BioThane® Beta, featuring a strong polyester core with a durable, waterproof coating. A 3M reflective strip is embedded into the strap, helping improve visibility when illuminated by headlights, torches or other light sources.

HARDWARE
Quality brass hardware in your choice of gold (solid brass), silver (nickel-plated brass) or matte black (PVD-coated brass).

CRAFTSMANSHIP
Each collar is individually handmade in our New Zealand workshop, carefully cut, assembled and finished to your dog's measurements.

CUSTOM SIZING
Made to your dog's exact neck measurement, with the middle adjustment hole positioned at the size you provide and additional holes on either side.

OPTIONAL NAMEPLATE
Add a personalised brass or stainless steel nameplate, hand-stamped with your dog's name and contact details. The nameplate sits across the reflective strip at the top of the neck and will cover a small section of the reflective material.

Care Instructions

BIOTHANE®
Wipe clean with a damp cloth or wash with warm water and mild soap. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaning products.

HARDWARE
Uncoated brass naturally develops a patina over time. Rinse hardware after exposure to salt water and dry thoroughly. Regularly check buckles, rivets and fittings for signs of wear.

REFLECTIVE STRIP
Clean gently with a soft cloth and mild soapy water. Avoid abrasive scrubbing that may damage the reflective surface.

Is this suitable for your pet?

Reflective BioThane® collars are a practical choice for dogs who are regularly walked in low-light conditions, including early mornings and evenings.

Waterproof, durable and easy to clean, they're also well suited to active dogs who enjoy swimming, muddy walks and wet weather.

The 3/4" width offers a lighter, narrower fit, while the 1" width provides a broader collar for medium and larger dogs. Both are individually made to your dog's neck measurement.

The reflective strip works by returning light from sources such as headlights and torches. It does not glow in the dark or replace other visibility and safety measures.

How To Measure Neck Size

Getting the size right means a better fit and a more comfortable collar for your dog. Here's how to measure your dog’s neck so we can make their collar just right - plus tips for growing puppies.

Dog Collar Measurement Guide - Kinfolk Leather Custom Dog Collars NZ

We strongly suggest providing an accurate measurement when placing your order. Old collars can stretch or sit differently, so measuring them often gives an inaccurate size - a quick neck measurement using the guide below will give the best fit.

1. Using a soft tape measure, record the circumference of the neck at the point where a collar would naturally lie. If you don’t have a tape measure, you can use a piece of string, ribbon, or strip of paper, then lay it flat against a ruler to measure the length.

2. Pull the tape so that it is snug but not tight - close enough that the collar will sit securely without slipping over the head, while still remaining comfortable for your dog. Record the measurement.

3. Enter this measurement in the Neck Circumference field when prompted. This measurement will be the middle hole of the collar, we will add at least another two holes either side.

Puppies - If your dog is a puppy, please let us know and we will make an allowance for growth when sizing the holes for the collar. Please feel free to give us a range (up to 12cm, i.e. 24-36cm) so that we can make sure there are enough holes to suit your dog's growth. We can be very flexible with the number of holes provided in the collar.
