Our Leather Dog Lead is crafted in a classic flat style and features solid brass fittings that match our custom leather dog collars.
✦ Handcrafted in our New Zealand workshop – made start to finish by us, never outsourced, with care taken at every step.
✦ Premium full-grain Italian leather – strong yet supple in the hand, designed to soften and develop a rich patina with everyday use.
✦ Custom two-tone design – choose a single colour for a classic look or mix two leathers to create a lead that’s uniquely yours (we love bringing your colour combinations to life).
✦ Comfort-finished by hand – every edge is rounded, smoothed, and sealed so the lead feels good in hand, even on longer walks.
✦ Thoughtfully versatile – a solid brass trigger clip for secure attachment, plus an O-ring at the handle for keys, clean-up bags, or hands-free moments when your dog is off-leash.
✦ Optional integrated nameplate – hand-stamped in solid brass or stainless steel and securely riveted, so your details are available if the lead is ever misplaced.

LEATHER
We use premium full-grain leather — the highest grade of real leather, known for its natural markings, strength, and durability.
Selected for its strength and beauty - as the leather ages it will soften and develop a unique, natural patina, whilst remaining extremely strong to withstand harsh and demanding conditions. It is vegetable-tanned and has been dyed all the way through with non-toxic water dyes.
HARDWARE
Premium hardware, cast from solid brass, selected for maximum strength to ensure our products remain rust-free for life. All hardware is kept securely in place with strong solid brass rivets.
Solid brass is a natural metal so our "gold" hardware may arrive with a little tarnish, especially when travelling snugly against leather. This is completely normal and easily polished – a quick wipe brings back the shine. Over time, brass also develops a warm, natural patina that many owners love. If you prefer hardware that stays bright without patina, you may like to choose our silver option instead (nickel-plated brass or stainless steel).
CRAFTSMANSHIP
Our leather dog leads are custom made with quality craftsmanship and thoughtful design that prioritises your dog's comfort and safety. Our dog leads stand out for their premium Italian vegetable-tanned leather, known for its ability to soften and age beautifully over time, and sturdy solid brass hardware.
Each dog lead is meticulously handmade, and our nameplates are hand-stamped. Minor tooling marks or inconsistencies in the stamping enhance the unique charm and human element of your custom dog lead.
Collar Width - Size Guide
Collar Width - Size Guide
Not sure what width collar your dog needs? Here’s a simple guide to help you choose the best fit for your dog — whether you’re after a soft puppy collar or something sturdy for a strong puller. We’ve included recommendations for both our leather dog collars and BioThane® dog collars so you can pick a width that’s comfy, practical, and looks great too.
Leather Dog Collars

As a general guide, we recommend that if your dog’s neck circumference is:
- Less than 22cm (8.5”) or a puppy under 3 months old, choose a soft leather puppy collar.
- 22 - 28cm (8.5 - 11”), choose a 1/2” leather collar.
- 28 - 34cm (11 - 13”), choose a 3/4” leather collar.
- 34 - 41cm (13 - 16”), choose a 1” leather collar.
- 41 - 48cm (15 - 19”), choose a 1 1/4” leather collar.
- 48cm (19”) and larger, choose a 1 1/2” leather collar.
BioThane® Dog Collars
The BioThane® range comes in widths of 1/2”, 3/4”, and 1”. Because BioThane® is stronger than leather, these widths are suitable for a wider range of neck sizes. When choosing a width, you can focus more on the look you prefer and the comfort of your dog, as the strength will be adequate regardless of the size.

- 1/2” BioThane® Collar: Suitable for necks up to 35cm (14”).
- 3/4” BioThane® Collar: Suitable for necks from 28cm (11") - 40cm (16").
- 1” BioThane® Collar: Suitable for necks from 35cm (14") and beyond. This width is highly recommended for most medium and large dog breeds.
General Tips:
- Wider collars are stronger, so please consider this when selecting the width. For example, do not use a 1/2” collar for a medium-sized dog; choose at least a 3/4” collar or larger.
- For medium-sized breeds and larger dogs, especially those that have a habit of pulling on the lead, we highly recommend choosing one of our D-End Dog Collars. These collars provide an additional layer of leather to pull against when attaching a lead to the dee ring, offering extra strength and durability to handle stronger pulling.

If your dog needs to be tied up or left unattended for a while, we recommend using a heavy-duty lead made for that purpose, and saving this custom lead for walks and training. While our leads are extremely sturdy, and will withstand forceful tugging, there are determined dogs out there for which any lead is no match!
Remember: the wider the leather, the stronger the lead.

How To Measure Neck Size
How To Measure Neck Size
Getting the size right means a better fit and a more comfortable collar for your dog. Here's how to measure your dog’s neck so we can make their collar just right — plus tips for growing puppies.

We strongly suggest providing an accurate measurement when placing your order. Old collars can stretch or sit differently, so measuring them often gives an inaccurate size — a quick neck measurement using the guide below will give the best fit.
1. Using a soft tape measure, record the circumference of the neck at the point where a collar would naturally lie.
2. Pull the tape so that it is snug but not tight. Record the measurement.
3. Enter this measurement in the personalisation text box when prompted. This measurement will be the middle hole of the collar, we will add at least another two holes either side.
Puppies - If your dog is a puppy, please let us know and we will make an allowance for growth when sizing the holes for the collar. Please feel free to give us a range (up to 12cm, i.e. 24-36cm) so that we can make sure there are enough holes to suit your dog's growth. We can be very flexible with the number of holes provided in the collar.
